Severe Tropical Storm (STS) Podul is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday (August 10) or Monday (August 11), according to PAGASA.
"PODUL is forecast to move generally westward today until Monday (11 August), then west northwestward or northwestward from Tuesday (12 August) through the end of the forecast period. PODUL may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility between tomorrow evening and Monday early morning," PAGASA said.
Based on PAGASA’s Tropical Cyclone Advisory, as of 8 a.m., Podul was located 1,740 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h, moving westward at 25 km/h.
Podul has strong to storm-force winds extending outward up to 280 km from its center.
The weather bureau said Podul is less likely to directly affect the country's weather and sea conditions within the next five days.
Meanwhile, PAGASA noted a large uncertainty in the projected track and intensity of Podul from Monday through the end of the forecast period, as any northward or southward shift in its track could significantly affect the intensity forecast.
Once Podul enters PAR, it will be given the local name Gorio.
