ACT Teachers Party-list Representative and House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro supports the decision of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to proceed with the opening of classes for public schools that were unaffected by the recent flooding caused by Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon.
Castro mentioned that the opening of classes for school year 2024-2025 must proceed as scheduled.
"Sa ACT-Teachers Partylist ay sumasang-ayon naman na mayorya naman ng mga eskwelahan ready naman na magbukas by tomorrow kaya okay din kami doon," Rep. Castro said in an exclusive interview with DZRH segment 'Isyung Pambayan' hosted by Milky Rigonan on Sunday.
Out of over 45,000 schools in the country, 738 are not yet ready to push through with the opening of classes due to flood clean-up efforts, while other are serving as evacuation centers.
These schools are in the National Capital Region (NCR), Northern Luzon, and Central Luzon.
Meanwhile, Castro reminded that teachers are entitled to avail of calamity leave for up to five days.
