On Monday, the Makati local government ordered the closure of Smart Inc.'s main office at Ayala Avenue due to allegedly operating without a business permit since 2019 as well as non-payment of its Php 3.2 billion taxes.

Following the closure, Smart vowed to comply with the Makati City government's tax ordinances along with relevant national laws on local taxation.
