The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is extending PHP 80,000 in livelihood assistance to the woman who crawled out of the sewer in Makati City earlier this week.

In a press release, the DSWD said that its Secretary Rex Gatchalian met with Rose, the woman who surfaced from the sewer in Makati City, to check her condition after the incident went viral.

Gatchalian announced during the meeting at DSWD’s Pag-abot Center in Pasay City that the agency would give PHP 80,000 in livelihood assistance to help start a sari-sari store, which is her preferred entrepreneurial project.

The agency will also look into how Rose’s partner, Jerome, can be assisted.

According to the DSWD’s press release, Rose and Jerome lived on the street along Pasong Tamo in Makati City for a year.

So, baka matulungan sa pagbili ng welding machine para yung kita nilang dalawa mas maging stable,” he said.

The agency’s extended help to Rose and other families and individuals in street situations (FISS) or those living on the streets is a tall order from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Gatchalian told reporters that Rose would also help in the program by going out with the Pag-abot team during outreach programs to convince other families and individuals living on the streets to go to the center and be given appropriate interventions.

Earlier this week, a Reddit user posted a series of photos showing a woman emerging from a sewer in Makati City.
