The viral mystery woman who emerged from the sewer along Rufino and Adelantado Street in Legazpi Village, Makati, has been living inside the manhole, the Makati Police Station Chief Col. Jean Dela Torre stated.
In a press briefing on Wednesday, May 28, Dela Torre explained that the CCTV footage from the viral incident showed the woman had been living inside the drainage, and is possibly mentally challenged.
“May problema po sa kanyang pag-iisip,” she explained, adding there was an opening inside the sewer in Barangay San Lorenzo.
However, upon learning about the incident, they immediately took action and coordinated with the Makati Central Estate Association, Inc. (MaCEA).
“Nung kaagad po na nag-viral po kasi yon, hindi na [tayo] ulit nagsayang ng oras. Actually po, isang reporter din po ang nagparating sa atin, kaya naman mabilis ang aksyon ng ating pulis—ng sub station 5,” Dela Torre stated.
“Nakipag-cooperate tayo sa MaCEA, barangay San Lorenzo, at kaagad nating ipinasara yung nasabing butas,” she added.
Moreover, law enforcers recovered various belongings inside the sewers. Upon inspecting the CCTV footage, they were able to conclude that the woman is mentally challenged.
“Sa CCTV, nakita natin na mayroon siyang problema sa kanyang pag-iisip. Ngayon ang barangay San Lorenzo, in close [coordination] sa kanilang social workers—kasama rin ang ating pulis at MaCEA—naglilibot din sila kasi posible na naandito lang din siya sa area dahil wala wala na siyang mapapasukan,” she said.

On Monday evening, a Reddit user uploaded a series of photos of a woman emerging from a drainage in Makati.
The user had just finished working out at the gym and was walking back home when a woman crawled out from the sewer.
“Instinct kicked in. I started snapping photos—couldn’t believe my eyes,” the user wrote.
He said that when the woman began running towards him, he was “ready to defend myself if needed.”
However, a military guy on a scooter told him not to.
“She ran past me, the military guy in pursuit. A few pedestrians, motorcyclists, and even the traffic enforcer just stood there—stunned, confused, maybe even a little amused,” he said.
“Makati streets, man. They never fail to surprise,” he added, hoping that people like that get help.
The post quickly gained attention from users, with various news outlets sharing the photos from the incident.
