Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 has been hoisted in three areas as tropical storm Karding intensified into a severe tropical storm, PAGASA reported Saturday, Sept. 24.
In its 11 am tropical cyclone bulletin, the state weather bureau said Tropical Storm Karding was last tracked 660 kilometers East Southeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, or 595 kilometers East of Casiguran, Aurora.
It has maximum sustained winds of 100 kmh near the center, gusts of up to 125 kph, and it is moving west Southwestward at 25 kph.
According to PAGASA’s forecast, Karding is expected to landfall tomorrow morning or afternoon on the east coast of Aurora or Isabela.
“After crossing Central or Northern Luzon, the tropical cyclone is forecast to emerge over the West Philippine Sea tomorrow late evening or Monday early morning. KARDING will then continue tracking westward over the West Philippine Sea for the remainder of the forecast period,“ it said.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 was raised in the following areas:
- The southeastern portion of Isabela (Dinapigue),
- The northern portion of Aurora (Dinalungan, Casiguran, Dilasag)
- Pollilo Islands
PAGASA warned that areas under Signal no. 2 may experience “minor to moderate threat to life and property.“
Meanwhile, following areas were placed under Signal No. 1:
- Southern portion of Cagayan (Peñablanca, Iguig, Tuguegarao City, Enrile, Solana, Tuao, Piat, Amulung, Rizal)

Areas under Signal no. 1 faces minimal to “minor threat to life and property“, the state bureau said.
PAGASA's forecast also showed that Tropical Storm Karding will intensify into a typhoon before it landfall over Central or Northern Luzon.
“While it is likely for this tropical cyclone to slightly weaken due to land interaction during its traverse over Northern and Central Luzon, it is highly likely that KARDING will remain a typhoon while crossing the landmass,“ it added.
