Kabosu, the Shiba Inu behind the viral doge meme online, was diagnosed with leukemia and liver disease, her owner disclosed.

Atsuko Sato, a kindergarten teacher living in Japan, shared the sad news on Instagram last Dec. 28.

"Kabosu's disease names are acute cholangiohepatitis and chronic lymphoma leukemia. Right now, the liver level is very bad and jaundice appears. But antibiotics will definitely improve," she captioned in the post and shared a video showing the condition of Kabosu.

But Sato said her beloved pet has an appetite and can also drink water.

"To all of you who are worried, Thank you very much," she said.

In another Instagram post on Dec. 30, Sato gave an update on Kabosu's condition, saying that she is slowly bouncing back.

"It’s the morning of the 5th day since Kabosu fell ill. She completely finished her meal of chicken tenders. She drinks plenty of water. She no longer needs diapers as she can go to the bathroom on her own," she said.

Sato also shared that Kabosu looked happy after they had a five-minute walk to the park that day.

"I thank you all for your prayers. The Miracle of Kabosu couldn’t have happened without your warm wishes and prayers. Thank you," Sato said.

In 2010, Kabosu became an internet sensation when a photo of her with wide eyes and crossed paws went viral.

Three years after, a cryptocurrency called "Dogecoin" was created with Kabosu's face on it. This coin is considered the first "dog coin" in the world and it spiked in value throughout the years.
