Sen. Imee doubts PBBM will allow ICC to make arrest in PHL grounds

Sen. Imee Marcos doubts that his brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., will allow the International Criminal Court (ICC) to enter the Philippines and make arrests.

"Naniniwala ako kasi sinabi niya ilang beses," Sen. Marcos said on Wednesday, May 22, during DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.

The ICC investigates the alleged crimes against humanity committed during the intensified anti-illegal drug campaign of then-President Rodrigo Duterte.

Former Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV earlier claimed that the Rome Statute would issue an arrest warrant against former President Duterte as early as June.

Trillanes said that the ICC will also order the arrest of Vice President Sara Duterte, as well as Senator Christopher Go, and Ronald Dela Rosa for their involvement in the War on Drugs.

While Sen. Marcos trusts that President Marcos will remain steadfast against the ICC, the lawmaker criticized the Department of Justice (DOJ) for their changing positions on whether the Administration will cooperate with the investigation of the international tribunal.

"Nahihilo talaga ako sa DOJ, sa totoo lang. Papalit-palit, sabi nila no intervention, pagkatapos papapasukin, no investigation tapos will cooperate," Sen. Marcos remarked.

"Bakit naman yung iba't ibang amuyong diyan, iba naman ang sinasabi, para naman nanakot. Ang kinakatakutan nila, nakakahilo sila," she added.

Sen. Marcos called for the DOJ to resolve these alleged cases of extrajudicial killings linked to the War on Drugs.

"Kailangan maging masigasig na lang tayo dito. I-pursige kung may mga drug war killings or EJK na sinasabi. Tayo na ang mag-investigate. Mas alam naman natin iyan at kilala natin ang mga testigo, yung mga akusado," Sen. Marcos stressed.

The Republic of the Philippines withdrew from the Rome Statute in 2019 after the ICC started the investigation into the War on Drugs.
