Sen. Nancy Binay felt that old wounds reopened during the public hearing on the budget for the construction of the new Senate Building.
Binay said on Wednesday, July 5, that the Senate inquiry, led by Committee on Accounts chairperson Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, reminded her of the investigation on the alleged overpriced Makati City hall car park building in 2015.
The issue resulted to the filing of graft and malversation charges against her father, then Vice President Jejomar Binay Sr., and her brother, then Makati City mayor Jejomar 'Junjun' Binay Jr.
Cayetano took part in the 2015 Senate inquiry that lasted for more than 20 hearings.
"Parang yung sugat na akala ko ay naghilom na ay parang binuksan dahil naalala ko yung ginawa sa pamilya ko, kung paano niya, paano nila sinira yung pangalan," Binay told reporters.
Binay walked out of the hearing last Wednesday after she traded barbs with Cayetano.
Cayetano said that the cost of the new Senate building balooned to Php 23 billion but Binay insists that the construction costs only reached to Php 21.73 billion, excluding the Php 1.6 billion for the land acquisition.
Senate President Francis Escudero suspended the construction of the new Senate building, and ordered a review of the project following a report submitted by Cayetano.
