Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio once again rejected the calls of her supporters to run for president in the upcoming national elections, saying she would rather finish her term as mayor.
"Masakit din para sa aking damdamin na sanay magpaubaya sa mga kaibigan na hindi ko maibigay ang gusto ninyo. Gusto ko po sana tapusin muna ang huli kong termino sa mayor bago ako manungkulan sa ibang posisyon," she said in a Facebook post.
[It pains me not to be able to give my friends what they want. I want to finish my last term as mayor before I serve in another position.]
On Saturday, Duterte-Carpio filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for her third and final term as local chief executive of Davao City despite repetitive calls of her supporters to succeed his father, President Rodrigo Duterte.
However, speculations continue to arise after the President confirmed in an interview that his daughter and his longtime aide Sen. Bong Go, who filed his COC for vice president, will be running as a tandem in the 2022 polls.
Duterte-Carpio, meanwhile, remained mum on the issue.
