Actress and comedienne Rufa Mae Quinto successfully posted P1.7 million in bail on Thursday afternoon.
On Wednesday, the actress voluntarily surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) - International Airport Investigation Division (IAID), upon her arrival at the airport. A press release from the NBI stated that a formal request from Rufa Mae’s lawyer was received by the division, indicating the actress’ willingness to surrender.
A statement from Rufa Mae’s legal counsel said that the actress flew in from San Francisco with her family to surrender to NBI authorities voluntarily. The actress underwent a medico-legal examination before heading to the Pasay Regional Trial Court (RTC). Additionally, Atty. Mary Louise Reyes also asked that the media refrain from rushing to judgment based on “inaccurate and incomplete information.”
Rufa Mae attempted to process the bail on Wednesday afternoon, but was unable to complete the procedure, requiring her to stay overnight at the NBI Office.
On Thursday afternoon, Rufa Mae appeared before the Pasay RTC and pleaded not guilty. She posted a total of P1.7 million in bail for 14 counts of the violation of Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code, each amounting to P126,000.
The Pasay RTC issued an arrest warrant against the actress last year, for cases filed by the investors of the skincare company, Dermacare. The cases filed against Rufa Mae were also related to the charges filed against actress-entrepreneur Neri Naig.
