Comedian-actress Ruffa Mae Quinto has a standing warrant of arrest, according to her lawyer, Atty. Mary Louise Reyes.
The warrant is related to cases filed by investors against Dermacare, the skincare company with which actress-entrepreneur Neri Naig was also involved.
Reyes clarified that Ruffa Mae is not facing complaints for large-scale estafa or syndicated estafa but has been charged with 14 counts of violating Section 8 of the Securities Regulation Code.
In a social media post, Reyes said an official statement will be released on Tuesday, December 3.
"We appreciate the overwhelming support, as well as your understanding and continued trust in Ms. Quinto during this challenging time," she said in her post.
Naig was previously arrested by the Southern Police District in Pasay City and is currently facing charges of estafa and violation of the Securities Regulation Code. These charges stem from allegations that she encouraged investors to invest in the same skincare company.
In September 2023, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) issued a warning about Dermacare-Beyond Skin Care Solutions, stating that the company was not authorized to solicit investments as it was neither registered nor licensed to sell securities.
The SEC's advisory also stated that individuals involved in promoting the company including salespeople, brokers, agents, influencers, and endorsers could face legal action.
