After his alleged attempt to snatch the service pistol of an officer, a robbery suspect was shot dead inside a police precinct in Quezon City on Sunday morning.
According to a report submitted to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, the suspect was identified as Jose Lemery Palmares Jr., a resident of Barangay Culiat.
The shooter, Maj. Jun Fortunato, had no other choice but to fire at the suspect as a form of self-defense as it is part of their duties and responsibilities to protect themselves from any danger, said Torre.
On Saturday afternoon, the suspect reportedly robbed a food shop along Congressional Extension, as well as in Barangay Culiat, and got nabbed early morning on Sunday.
Lt. Col. May Genio said that the suspect suddenly grabbed the service firearm of Staff Sgt. Juderick Latao, while he underwent a booking procedure, resulting in a scuffle.
After seeing the commotion, Fortunato then pulled out his service firearm and gunned down the suspect.
Meanwhile, Palmares was urgently taken to the Quezon City General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
