President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. expressed his belief that the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte will not negatively affect the Philippine economy.
"Wala naman akong nakikitang magiging effect na ganon,” Marcos said in a Palace briefing on Thursday.
Marcos emphasized that the government remains committed to its investment plans, strategies, and structural reforms, adding that these are the key factors investors are focused on.
During the same press briefing, the President reiterated that he had no involvement in the impeachment of Vice President Duterte.
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives passed the impeachment complaints with the backing of 215 lawmakers.
The Senate will conduct a trial to assess Duterte’s removal from office, with proceedings set to begin once sessions resume in June.
Duterte is facing allegations of misappropriating PhP612.5 million in confidential funds, as well as charges of bribery and corruption within the Department of Education (DepEd), and conspiracy to assassinate President Marcos, First Lady Liza Marcos, and Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.
She is also facing charges of involvement in extrajudicial killings, destabilization, insurrection, public disorder, and unprofessional behavior while serving in office.
