The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) rescued 12 crew members of a fishing boat that suffered a mechanical failure and was adrift in rough sea conditions near Cabuli Island, El Nido, Palawan, on Friday.
In a statement on Saturday, the PCG reported that the vessel BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV 9702) assisted in the rescue operations for the stranded crew of the fishing boat.
Upon receiving the distress call from the stranded fishing boat, Coast Guard District Palawan (CGDPAL) Commander, Commodore Dennis Rem Labay, immediately deployed BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV 9702) to carry out the rescue operation.
BRP Melchora Aquino, under the command of Lieutenant Commander Noel Alvarez, was able to locate FB BART-2 and its crew within hours of deployment, despite challenging sea conditions.
All crew members of the fishing boat were found safe and in stable condition.
Moreover, the PCG provided the rescued crew with assistance, including medical evaluations and supplies, and towed their distressed vessel to safety.
The PCG urges seafarers to take necessary precautions by ensuring their vessels are properly maintained and equipped with reliable communication tools before setting sail.
