Tropical Depression Queenie has intensified into a Tropical Storm, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday.
In its 11 am bulletin, the state weather bureau said Tropical Storm Queenie was last tracked at 815 kilometers East of Northeastern Mindanao.
It is moving west-southwestward at the speed of 10 km/h, with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gusts of up to 80 km/h, and a central pressure of 1000 hPa.
PAGASA noted that it is unlikely to affect the country until Tuesday directly.
“However, light to moderate with at times heavy rains possible over Caraga, Eastern Visayas, and Bicol Region beginning Wednesday,” it added.
The state weather bureau said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 may be raised over the eastern portion of Caraga and in some areas in Eastern Visayas on Tuesday evening.
PAGASA said TS Queenie is less likely to bring rough seas over the country’s coastal waters which could be dangerous to mariners.
TS Queenie is expected to intensify in the next 12 hours but may weaken by Tuesday evening or Wednesday.
Paeng re-intensified into a Severe Tropical Storm
Meanwhile, Paeng re-intensified into a Severe Tropical Storm while moving into the West Philippines Sea.
PAGASA said Paeng was last seen 375 km West of Dagupan City, Pangasinan, with maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h near the center, and gusts of up to 115 km/h.
It is moving northwestward with a speed of 10 km/h.

- The western and central portions of Pampanga (Mexico, Porac, Angeles City, Santa Rita, Santa Ana, Guagua, Sasmuan, Mabalacat City, Arayat, Santo Tomas, Minalin, City of San Fernando, Bacolor, Floridablanca, Magalang, Lubao)
- Abra
- Benguet
- The western portion of Mountain Province (Besao, Tadian, Bauko, Sabangan, Sagada)
- The western portion of Ifugao (Tinoc, Hungduan)
- Tarlac
- The western portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Santa Fe, Kayapa)
- The western portion of Nueva Ecija (Cuyapo, Talugtug, Nampicuan, Guimba, Licab, Quezon, Zaragoza, San Antonio, Cabiao)

- The central and southern portions of Bataan (Orani, Abucay, Hermosa, Samal, Morong, Dinalupihan, Bagac, City of Balanga, Pilar)
Moderate to heavy rain are still possible over Batanes, Zambales, and Bataan.
While light to moderate with at times heavy rains may still prevail Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, the southern portion of Quezon, Western Visayas, Babuyan Islands, MIMAROPA, and the rest of Central Luzon.
PAGASA reminded that a warning of a marine gale remains in effect over most Luzon seaboards due to the surge of the Northeast Monsoon and Paeng.
The western border of Visayas may experience moderate to rough seas that would be risky, especially for small seacrafts.
