The House of Representatives Quad-Committee will be inviting Michael Yang's brother to the hearing next week, following the announcement of his arrest on Thursday.
Tony Yang or Yang Jianxin, is the elder brother of Michael Yang–former President Rodrigo Duterte's presidential economic adviser. The Quad-Committee mentioned how the former's arrest would aid in their investigation into the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) and drug smuggling, disguised as legitimate businesses in the country.
“For too long, these individuals have operated with impunity, using corporate fronts to conceal their illegal operations. This arrest strengthens our commitment to pursuing justice and holding everyone involved in these syndicates accountable, no matter how well-connected they may be,” Surigao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Robert Ace Barbers said.
Additionally, Laguna Representative Dan Fernandez mentioned how they are expecting more information to come out on illegal drugs with the elder Yang's arrest. The Committee will also look into the possible financial ties between Tony and Alice Guo.
“The matrix we’ve uncovered reveals a sophisticated network spanning multiple illegal activities, and we will not rest until all those involved are held accountable,” he said.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested Tony on Thursday inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for being an undesirable alien. His name surfaced along with the issues on POGOs and drugs, along with his brother.
The joint Committee ordered for Michael's arrest after they found his involvement in the Php3.6 billion drug buy bust in Mexico, Pampanga in 2023.
