The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) released images of two of the five "persons of interest" in the shooting that injured a photojournalist last Thursday in Barangay Masambong.

Joshua Abiad, a photojournalist, was in an SUV with other relatives when they were ambushed on June 29, which led to his four-year-old nephew’s death.

Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III, Director of Police for the QCPD, stated that the photographs were acquired from CCTV footage "some distance away" from the crime scene, hours before the ambush.

According to Torre, the gunman was wearing black long sleeves and black jeans, while the spotter was wearing brown long sleeves.

Torre encouraged the persons of interest to simply surrender because he believes some of them are living outside of Metro Manila.

The QCPD chief declined to provide the cause of the shooting until the alleged perpetrators were captured.

Authorities previously stated that Abiad's ambush may have been related to his work chronicling a deadly seven-year-long crackdown on illegal drugs.

Abiad, a Remate police beat reporter, is a witness in some narcotics cases and has been invited to testify in them, according to the authorities.

The shooting of Abiad is the latest in a series of attacks on journalists in the Philippines, a country long regarded as one of the most dangerous in the world for journalists to work in.
