Four jeepney groups on Friday filed a joint petition asking the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to increase the fare in public utility jeepneys (PUJs) nationwide by ₱2.
The petition was penned by the National Presidents of Liga ng Transportasyon at Operators sa Pilipinas (LTOP Inc.), Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON), Stop and Go Transportation Incorp., and Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (FEJODAP).
In the one-page fare increase petition, the four transport National Presidents cited the uncontrollable surge of fuel and diesel prices, as well as the high cost of parts and throttle body alignments (TBAs).
"These are just few reasons that stakeholders provider of the service are almost living a hand to mouth existence if the government will not do an measures that any somehow address this issues and concerns," they said.

Transport group National Presidents said LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III's approval of the request will help alleviate the economic conditions of drivers and operators.
"Henceforth, the approval of our request for TWO PESOS for the first FOUR KILOMETERS will always be appreaciated," they furthered.
Earlier this year, transport groups refiled the petition for a rush hour surge free in buses and jeepneys. They proposed that the surcharge will be implemented during the peak hours, from 5:30 AM to 8 AM and 5 PM to 8 PM.
The rush hour fare increase for jeepneys is ₱1 while ₱2 for buses.
The LTFRB earlier said that this petition is still under review.
