Three out of six Florida bus drivers involved in the viral video allegedly showing a dangerous race along a national highway failed to attend the scheduled hearing conducted by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Friday, June 13.
The incident, which drew widespread public outrage, involved multiple Florida Transport Inc. buses allegedly racing along a highway en route to Cagayan Valley. The viral video triggered an immediate investigation by transportation authorities.
RH 5 Val Gonzales reported that during the LTFRB hearing, only two representatives from Florida Bus appeared before the board, while three of the drivers failed to show up.
The board led by Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II expressed frustration over the absence of key individuals and the lack of complete information presented.
The hearing was temporarily halted after the Florida representatives were unable to provide the names and plate numbers of the three other buses involved in the viral video.
“With 30 minutes baka less pa nga. Tutal tayo pumunta dito, kaya niyong gawin. Huwag na tayong mag-ikot-ikutan dito, kaya niyong gawin ang tawag niyo lang kung sino-sino 'yan," Mendoza told the Florida representatives.
“Within 30 minutes the name of the drivers of the other buses involved in this incident. So that we can give them the appropriate due process," he added.
Due to the lack of information, Mendoza ordered Florida Bus to immediately submit the requested details to the LTO.
He added that a resolution regarding the accountability of the three absent drivers may soon be issued based on existing evidence.
Meanwhile, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon earlier announced the suspension of 15 Florida Transport Inc. buses, effective on Wednesday, June 11.
The suspension, lasting for a minimum of 30 days, affects routes from Santa Ana to Sampaloc and Baguio to Apayao.
Investigations remain ongoing as authorities continue to determine the extent of violations and appropriate penalties for those involved.
