Pura Luka Vega on persona non grata declarations: 'Dagdagan niyo pa!'
by Mary Antalan23 August 2023

Drag artist Pura Luka Vega didn't budge in the series of declarations of her being a persona non grata in different places in the country.

Vega after her performance at a bar in Makati City on August 21, gave a speech about applying the golden rule amid the backlash that she is facing.

"Lahat tayo makasalanan. Tama? Hindi tayo perpekto. Tama? Gayunpaman, do unto others what you want others to do unto you. Okay? Do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you. Golden rule lang po ‘yun," Vega said.

"Para sa mga ibang lugar na gustong mag-persona non grata diyan, dagdagan n'yo pa! Pakialam ko. Mayroon tayong separation ng church and state," she added.

Vega was declared persona non grata in some areas of the country after she impersonated Jesus Christ in a drag performance and remixed "Ama Namin" or "The Lord's Prayer".

Several religious groups such as Hijos Del Nazareno (HDN) - Central and the leaders of Christian churches under the Philippines for Jesus Movement (PJM) also filed charges against Vega, labeling her acts as high degree of "blasphemy."

According to the PJM, the drag performance was “not only terribly blasphemous” but also caused a devalued and negative image” of the Christian God, which they hold in veneration.

HDN said that they will revoke the case once Pura Luka will apologize to the priests of Quiapo Church for her action, however, Vega said she is not sorry for impersonating the Black Nazarene.

Recently, Vega was declared persona non grata in Manila, Bukidnon, Dinagat Islands, Western Mindoro, Cebu City, General Santos City and others.

Added to the list are Bohol, Laguna, Cagayan De Oro, and Quezon.
