General Santos City has declared persona non grata to controversial drag queen Pura Luka Vega following her performance that went viral wherein she was dressed as the Black Nazarene and used the upbeat and remixed "Ama Namin" in a club performance.
In a resolution dated July 18, the local government of General Santos City deemed the drag queen's "Ama Namin" remix as blasphemous and clearly offended the Christian community.
“Persona non grata” is a Latin term that translates to an "unwelcome person.”
Pura Luka Vega has yet to comment on the declaration, however, she earlier said that she is not sorry for the viral performance which intends to express queerness.
"I was very careful when I did that [because] I don't want it to come across as something as very offensive. But then again, it has been taken as very offensive," she said.
Pura said she is a Roman Catholic, and the performance was kind of her "way of praising god."
The queer artist said she does not understand why her video drew public clamor.
Some senators also condemned Pura's performance, saying that it is an "extremely blasphemous and offensive video" and a mockery of the Christian faith and disrespects The Lord's prayer.
