Only 38% of the respondents want their local languages as the medium for teaching Grades 1 to 3, according to the Pulse Asia survey commissioned by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian.
On Saturday, the result of the poll showed that the national language Filipino was most preferred to use to teach the pupils, obtaining 88% of the respondents, followed by English which gained 71%.
Meanwhile, Pulse Asia told that Filipino had the highest percentages all over island groups and social classes.
However, the local language was chosen by at least half of the respondents in the Visayas (50%) and Mindanao (53%), and less than half from classes ABC (41%), D (36%), and E (48%).
The House of Representatives gave its nod to House Bill 6717 on Wednesday on its second reading, with the measure seeking to suspend mother tongue as the medium of instruction for K-to-3.
