President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. has appointed Romeo 'Jun' Lumagui as the new commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) announced Tuesday.
“Lumagui, a tax lawyer, took his oath on Tuesday, November 15,” the OPS said in a statement. He will be replacing BIR Chief Lilia Guillermo.
In 2016, Lumagui started his career in the BIR. His last position was BIR deputy commissioner.
Lumagui also previously held other positions in the Bureau including technical assistant to the Commissioner and tax fraud head for Revenue Region No. 6, Manila, Revenue Region No. 4, Pampanga, and Revenue Region No. 7B, East National Capital Region (NCR).
He finished his Juris Doctor degree at Ateneo Law School in 2005.
