President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is working towards establishing a direct air link between the Philippines and India, complementing earlier efforts benefiting Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in India and boosting tourism.
In a report by RH 14 Leth Narciso, direct flights between the two countries are to be operated by Air India, although the President is looking to expand these trips to other carriers in order to connect various spots across both countries.
In a Filipino community event in New Delhi, Marcos recounted how else his administration has been of service. For one, the Philippine Embassy in New Delhi and all three Consulates (in Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai) launched e-Visa operations in 2024 to facilitate the acquisition of visas. In June this year, visa-free entries were permitted for Indian tourists coming to the Philippines.
As part of his state visit, Marcos also mentioned that he is to sign a social security agreement with India.
The President is also scheduled to attend multiple bilateral meetings, one with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
