President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, defended his appointments of retired Philippine National Police (PNP) Camilo Pancratius Cascolan and Film Director Paul Soriano.

In a press briefing, Marcos acknowledged that Cascolan is not a doctor but he said he designated him as the Department of Health (DOH) Undersecretary to look into the agency’s function.

“It's not health issues he's going to look at. That's why he doesn't have to be a doctor. Si Gen. Cascolan we put him there because he has to look at the function of the DOH,” he clarified.

Marcos said part of Casolan’s mandate is to work on rightsizing, structural changes, and other administrative matters in the health department.

“Ano yung maganda, hindi maganda, ano ‘yung pwedeng mas maayos. That would be his function kaya special concerns,” he added.

As per his appointment to Paul Soriano as the Presidential Adviser on Creative Communication, Marcos said people have misunderstood the scope of Soriano’s work.

He clarified that Soriano was not tapped to be part of the Public Relations, but to promote the Philippine Creative Industry where he originally belongs.

“Kasama ‘yan sa tourism. Ipinagmamalaki natin ang gagaling kumanta ng mga Pilipino, umarte, ang gagaling gumawa ng sine, etc,” he explained.

“We have to project that to the rest of the world. ‘Yan ang trabaho ni Paul, I hope I clarified that,” Marcos added.
