A pregnant woman attempted to jump from the footbridge along Recto Avenue on Monday morning, June 16.
According to RH 29 Boy Gonzales, the 19-year-old woman was stopped by personnel from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Manila Police Dirstrict as she tried to leap from the bridge.
Authorities later learned that the woman was in distress after her husband told her he wanted to end their relationship.
Initially, concerned citizens who were passing by the bridge noticed the woman with her two small children, appearing as though she intended to jump.
MMDA and police officers were able to convince her to let go of the footbridge railings, but she continued to resist and later lay down on the road, crying uncontrollably.
Her husband eventually arrived at the scene and spoke to her.
Authorities confirmed that the woman was distraught after discovering her husband's involvement with a third party.
