Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso confirmed on Thursday that several companies owned by the Discaya family, which are involved in a flood control project in the city, have unpaid taxes.
During a press conference at the Manila City Hall, the media asked Moreno if any companies owned by the Discaya family were among the hundreds of contractors cited for failing to pay their obligations to the local government. The mayor promptly responded, “Yes, they have also. A good sum of numbers.”
Moreno mentioned that the Discaya projects are spread across various districts in the city.
He also revealed that among the nine companies involved, Saint Timothy Construction Corporation was one of those cited.
“Iba-iba rin. Among the names, Saint Timothy din,” he said.
According to Moreno, the city government has already issued notices to the contractors of 315 flood control projects that remain delinquent in submitting their contractors’ tax obligations. Out of the P255 million total dues, only nine companies have made payments so far.
Moreover, the mayor warned that if these contractors fail to fulfill their obligations to the City of Manila, the local government will have no choice but to file charges against them.
The Manila City Government will also ensure that non-compliant companies will be blacklisted by the City Engineering Office and the Office of the Building Official, making them ineligible to secure permits in the future.
