Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto urged protesters to avoid violence following Thursday morning’s demonstration at the Saint Gerrard Construction Building in Bambang, owned by controversial contractor Sara Discaya.

In a Facebook post, Sotto acknowledged the public’s frustration over alleged irregularities in flood control projects but warned against actions that could endanger lives.

“I understand that we are angry and frustrated, but let’s not resort to violence or acts that could potentially lead to violence or injuries. Hindi naman yung mga corrupt ang masasaktan pag bumigay ang gate, hindi rin sila ang matatamaan ng bato. I worry for the security guards, workers, and the rallyists themselves,” he said.

Sotto assured residents that accountability processes are already in motion. He noted that the Pasig City government is working with at least five national agencies in building cases against questionable projects, while also pursuing local administrative and criminal actions against the Discaya companies for alleged violations such as illegal structures and tax delinquencies.

“Don’t feel hopeless… the momentum is on the right side now! Rest assured, we in the LGU will continue to do our part with investigation, case build-up, and even prosecution,” Sotto added.flood control

The mayor’s remarks came hours after flood victims and activist groups staged a brief protest outside the construction office, branding the Discayas as the “King and Queen of Flood Control” and calling for accountability in infrastructure spending.
