The Philippine National Police (PNP) is set to roll out a new helpline for victims of sexual abuse, particularly those facing blackmail.
In a report by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa, PNP Chief PGen. Nicolas Torre III said the agency has received numerous reports from both men and women who were coerced with threats of having their sensitive photos and videos leaked.
The PNP, Torre said, understands such cases are complex, and many victims are silenced by shame.
With the help of the PNP’s Women and Children Protection Center, the helpline aims to serve as a fast-response resource for victims, ensuring their immediate protection.
As the program is yet to be implemented, Torre said that victims, and whomever else may need police assistance, may call 911 in the meantime.
