The Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Pol. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil expressed his thanks to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for scrapping the complaint filed against his agency in relation to its arrest of doomsday preacher Apollo Quiboloy in the previous year.
“Tuwang-tuwa kami, especially I’ll be retiring soon diba? Kaya nga thank you to our DOJ—talagang pagbasa ko, talagang there’s no reason for us to be (subject to a case) … Ang kinakaso nila, ‘malicious mischief’... talagang it’s a part ng trabaho natin,” Marbil said during an ambush interview at Camp Crame.
(We are very pleased, especially since I’ll be retiring soon, right? That’s why we thank the DOJ—when I read the document, there’s really no reason for us to be subject to a case. The case they’re filing, ‘malicious mischief’... it’s really just a part of our job.)
He argued it was merely the police’s job to force entry upon serving a search warrant.
He argued that when serving a search warrant, it is certainly the police’s job to enter if necessary.
Former President Rodrigo Duterte, who had filed the complaint against Marbil and previous Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, accused them of using “excessive” force in capturing Quiboloy from the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City, over qualified trafficking and child, sexual abuse charges, as reported by RH 52 Edniel Parrosa.
Marbil joked that he may retire without a single case.
“Thank you sir, doon sa DOJ natin, kay (Secretary Jesus Crispin) Remulla, for looking doon sa tama. Maraming, maraming salamat. At least baka maka-retire akong walang kaso,” he laughed.
(Thank you to our DOJ, to Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, for considering the matter properly. Thank you very, very much. At least I may be able to retire without a case.)
Marbil is set to retire on June 7, after his term was extended in February.
