The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has obtained a “significant update” in the case involving the killing of Police Senior Master Sergeant Diane Marie Mollenido and her eight-year-old child, expressing confidence that charges will be filed soon against those involved.
Following a press briefing at Camp Crame, PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police expect that cases will be filed within the day against the individuals whose names are already in the custody of authorities.
“We are hoping the suspects, or soon-to-be accused or respondents, will be charged within the day. We have a significant update on that, and we already have the names of those involved,” Nartatez said.
However, Nartatez declined to specify which among the four persons currently detained will be formally charged or recommended for prosecution by the prosecutor’s office.
Based on earlier reports by RH Val Gonzales, four suspects are under police custody. These include a married couple who are car agents—among them Pia Katrina Panganiban, who allegedly had a transaction with the victim—as well as a person who introduced himself as a helper.
Also included among those detained is Mollenido’s former husband, a former police officer, and the husband of the car agent.
The PNP chief assured the public that there will be no cover-up in the investigation, including in cases involving other persons of interest linked to the killing of the mother and child.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing as they prepare the necessary charges against those found to be involved in the crime.
