The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said that car agent Pia Katrina Panganiban, allegedly the prime suspect in the killing of her godmother, a policewoman, and the latter’s 8-year-old child, is also a scammer, according to a report by RH Val Gonzales.
QCPD investigations revealed that multiple individuals had been allegedly scammed by Panganiban, mostly involving car sale transactions and unpaid loans.
According to source of DZRH News, it was confirmed that one of the victims was a young QCPD officer who reportedly lost ₱300,000 to a purportedly “bogus” vehicle sale conducted by Panganiban.
Officials say the scam angle may be a potential motive in the killings of PSMS Diane Marie Gabres Mollenido and her son, John Ysmael.
Investigators noted that no vehicle was ever delivered to the policewoman despite initial payments made in December, which included an advance of ₱400,000.
According to sources, the Panganiban couple had planned to demand additional payment for the car, but the dispute escalated into violence.
The couple’s conflict over the fate of the child also reportedly played a role. Pia's husband, dismissed policeman Christian Suarez Panganiban, allegedly wanted to spare the boy, while Pia insisted that both mother and child be killed.
Investigators also detailed that the victims’ remains were first taken from the Panganibans’ Novaliches home, then partially disposed of in Tarlac, and later in Pulilan, Bulacan. The QCPD noted that the bodies had remained in the house for several days before being moved to a warehouse.
The Panganiban couple, along with accomplices, have been presented to the prosecutor’s office for inquest proceedings and are facing charges of robbery with homicide.
Authorities continue to investigate the full extent of Panganiban’s alleged scams and their connection to the motive behind the killings.
