The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured that "maximum tolerance" will be observed if the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) proceeds with its planned protest against the impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo confirmed that the police are ready for the rally organized by the religious group, though no changes will be made to the police deployment since the protest still has no scheduled date or venue.
The PNP, however, guaranteed security assistance for localities that are expected or may host the rally.
The INC previously announced its support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s call to lawmakers to refrain from filing impeachment complaints against the Vice President.
Duterte is currently facing allegations related to the alleged misuse of confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd).
Furthermore, her recent statement regarding a “threat” to President Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez has also caused widespread controversy.
Two impeachment complaints have been lodged in Congress with the endorsement of the Akbayan partylist and other members of the Makabayan Bloc.
The grounds for the impeachment complaints include graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes.
