The Philippine National Police held a dialogue with the Filipino-Chinese community amid growing concerns over the recent spate of killings and abductions involving Chinese nationals in the country.
PNP Chief PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil personally led the high-level meeting at Camp Crame with the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc.
During the meeting, Marbil assured that the PNP is "on top of the situation," despite acknowledging the alarming nature of the recent kidnapping incidents.
Moreover, both parties agreed to strengthen the detection of potential threats, enhance coordination with local police units, and intensify surveillance in key business hubs.
The Filipino-Chinese community earlier expressed concern following the killing of a kidnapped steel magnate and his driver.
Authorities have confirmed that the bodies discovered in Rodriguez, Rizal, on Wednesday were those of the missing Filipino-Chinese businessman and his driver, who had been reported missing since March 29.
The PNP is investigating the possibility that the group behind the kidnapping is linked to illegal POGO operations, and may involve a network of Chinese nationals allegedly employing Filipinos as personnel.
Despite the incidents, the PNP maintained that the country remains a safe destination for both tourists and investors.
