The Philippine National Police (PNP) is considering the imposition of a "lifetime ban" on firearm licenses for those who violate the election gun ban.
In an ambush interview with the press, PNP Chief PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil stated that they are currently reviewing the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the law to promptly issue new guidelines.
"Tinitingnan ko po doon sa Implementing Rules and Regulation doon sa ating batas kung pwede nating gawan ng lifetime ban ang mga taong magvi-violate ng COMELEC gun ban," Marbil stated.
Furthermore, PNP Chief Marbil has instructed the lawyers from the Civil Security Group to focus on crafting the penalties.
The PNP official made the statement in Antipolo City, where the viral road rage incident took place that resulted in a shooting that left four people injured.
Following the incident, 28-year-old alias Kenneth was apprehended by Antipolo Police, and his .9mm firearm was confiscated with the help of a COMELEC checkpoint.
