The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) remain tight-lipped about the investigation into the death of a senior military lawyer inside his quarters at Camp Aguinaldo.

In a press briefing on Monday, PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo revealed that the AFP requested confidentiality regarding the ongoing investigation into the death of Col. Rolando Escalona Jr.

Escalona was part of the Judge Advocate General Service (JAGS), serving as the legal counsel for the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

According to Fajardo, the victim's family has appealed for privacy. However, the PNP confirmed that a firearm was recovered inside Escalona's quarters, where he was found with a gunshot wound in the early hours of November 22.

Furthermore, it was reported that the recovered firearm matched the gunshot wound sustained by the military officer.

Fajardo declined to confirm whether the firearm was a service weapon or if the forensic team found any indications of foul play during the autopsy conducted on the body.

The AFP had earlier sought the assistance of the PNP to investigate whether foul play was involved in the soldier's death inside Camp Aguinaldo.
