Taoyuan Pauian Pilots lament that an in-game scuffle marred the 101-85 win of the visiting Taiwanese team against the San Miguel Beer in the East Asia Super League on Wednesday, November 13, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City .
At the middle of the fourth quarter, things got heated after Jericho Cruz and Quincy Miller of the Beermen double-teamed Pilots center Alec Brown.
The Pilots big swung his elbow at Cruz, and Miller responded by pushing away Brown from his teammate.
Miller earned an unsportsmanlike foul and Brown received a technical foul for their involvement in the scuffle.
Meanwhile, the referees decided to slap a disqualifying foul against Cruz who snuck a punch at Brown while cooler heads tried to pacify the incident.
Pilots head coach Iurgi Caminos said that neither he nor San Miguel head coach Jorge Gallent feel happy about the scuffle.
"Me no happy. I saw how (Coach Gallent) was not happy. We do not want to happen this things," the Spanish coach said in a press conference after the match.
Brown admitted that he may also have 'overreacted'.
"The game is emotional. I kind of reacted to what I have thought was a foul. Maybe I overreacted but it escalated more than I hoped it would," Brown told reporters.
"Luckily, no one got hurt," he added.
