The Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) issued a tsunami warning in at least four areas in northern Luzon following a magnitude 7.2 quake that rocked Taiwan on Wednesday, April 3.
In an advisory, the state seismologist said tsunami alert is up in the following areas:

It added that based on "tsunami wave models and early tide gauge records of the tsunami in the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, coastal areas in the Philippines fronting the Pacific Ocean are expected to experience high tsunami waves."
"It is forecast that the first tsunami waves will arrive between 08:33 AM to 10:33 AM, 03 Apr 2024 (PST). It may not be the largest and these waves may continue for hours," PHIVOLCS added.
A REUTERS report said the magnitude of 7.2 hit Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, on Wednesday morning.
The quake hit at 07:58 a.m. (2358 GMT) at a depth of 15.5km (9.6 miles) just off the eastern coast of Taiwan, according to Taiwan's Central Weather Administration. It was the strongest quake to hit the island in 25 years, state media said.
