The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) observed a drop in volcanic activities in Mt. Kanlaon

From 12:00AM on Thursday, September 12, to 12:00AM on Friday, September 13, PHIVOLCS only recorded 17 volcanic earthquakes.

PHIVOLCS Dir. Teresito Bacolcol noted that the agency recorded 79 volcanic earthquakes between 12:00AM on Wednesday, September 11, to 12:00AM on Thursday.

"From 337 (volcanic earthquakes), two days ago, to 17 na lang," Bacolcol said on Friday during DZRH's Damdaming Bayan.

"Yung sulfur dioxide, although mataas pa rin, nasa 10,880 metric tonnes per day, mas mababa ito kaysa nung September 11 na umabot ng 11,556 metric tonnes per day," he also mentioned.

However, Bacolcol warned the public that the situation of Kanlaon Volcano could still change in any moment.

He stressed that Mt. Kanlaon remains under Alert Level 2, and the public should avoid entering the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone around the volcano due to the possibility of sudden eruptions, rockfalls, and landslides.

"May pangamba pa rin na pwedeng magkaroon ng pagbabago bigla yung monitoring parameters natin," Bacolcol stressed.
