The Philippine government will push for the improvement of the country's quality of maritime education and training systems, just as it welcomed the European Union's decision to recognize Philippine-issued seafarer's certificates, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement on Saturday night, the DFA said that the decision by the European Commission has been welcomed by the department to extend EU recognition of certificates issued by the Philippines to seafarers.
It was also said that the extension has been acknowledged by Manila with conditions to meet and comply with commitments to improve the process and the implementation of the maritime education system.
Meanwhile, the DFA welcomes the EU's offer of technical assistance to improve Manila's implementation and oversight of minimum education, training, and certification requirements.
