A maritime industry leader revealed on Tuesday (Washington DC time) that US corporations plan to hire approximately 75,000 Filipino sailors over the next three to four years.
During a meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in Washington, DC, John Padget, president and CEO of Carnival Corp., stated that his company is planning to hire Filipino seafarers.
Padget, who also represents Carnival Cruise Line, Holland American Airlines, and Seaborn, praised Filipino workers for their friendliness and worldwide competitiveness.
Secretary of Migrant Workers Susan Ople, who was present at the conference, expressed to the US corporations "the interest of 200,000 Filipinos" who "adhere to fair and ethical standards and principles."
Meanwhile, Marcos expressed gratitude to US employers for their continued faith in Filipino professionals and skilled workers.
With almost four million Filipino immigrants, both temporary and permanent, the Filipinos are the fourth largest immigrant group in the United States behind Mexicans, Indians, and Chinese.
Filipino workers contribute to the economic development of both the United States and the Philippines through the remittance of their skills, abilities, and expertise.
Marcos was accompanied in the meeting with the employers by House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez, and Department of National Defense officer in charge Carlito Galvez Jr.
