The Philippines had an impressive start at the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China, securing a dominant victory in the curling mixed doubles team event.
Filipino-Swedish duo Marc Angelo Pfister and Kathleen Dubberstein pulled off a stunning 12-6 upset against World No. 13 and Asia’s top-seeded Jihoon Seong and Kim Kyeongae of South Korea.
Despite a slow start, the Korean pair attempted to mount a comeback, but the Filipino tandem remained composed and continued their strong performance. A decisive five-point end sealed the victory for the Philippines.
The momentum carried over into their next match, where Pfister and Dubberstein also triumphed, 10-2, over World No. 45 Keremet Asanbaeva and Iskhak Abykeev of Kyrgyzstan.
A total of 11 nations are competing in the curling mixed doubles event, divided into two groups:
- Group A: Philippines, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Chinese Taipei
- Group B: China (host), Hong Kong, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Thailand
