PH rescue team dispatched to Myanmar return home

The Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent (PIAHC) deployed to aid in the search, rescue, and relief operations following the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that devastated Myanmar has returned on Sunday.

The team, comprised of 89 personnel and led by Lt. Col. Erwen S. Diploma of the Philippine Airforce, arrived at the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City at around 11 PM on April 13, after a two-week humanitarian mission overseas.

The contingent consisted of members of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force (PAF), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Energy Development Corp., Apex Mining Company Inc., who were deployed in two batches: on April 1 and 2.

A welcome ceremony was held in honor of the contingent’s service, with key officials from the national government, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), as well as partner agencies in attendance.

The team’s display of altruism, compassion, and unyielding resolve in delivering vital aid during a time of crisis was commended by DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa.
