MANILA, Philippines – The family of a Filipino who died due to the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar expressed sorrow and deep sadness through social media, saying that while they currently “mourn and grieve” for their deceased loved one, they are assured that “he is now in God’s grace”.
In his post on Facebook, Alvin Aragon informed the public that the authorities have already found the remains of his younger brother, whom he identified in the post as Francis Aragon.
“Ipinapaalam po [naming] na nakita na po [‘yong] kapatid namin at masakit man sa amin tanggapin [kasama na siya] ni Lord ngayon (We would like to inform that our brother has been found and while it hurts to accept, he is now with the Lord),” he wrote on Facebook.
In the same post, Aragon extended his appreciation for the support and prayers that their family received.
“We are currently mourning and grieving for the [loss] of our youngest brother… we thank God for all the grace, comfort, encouragement and strength He has given this past weeks sa aming (to our) family,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) earlier confirmed that the Myanmar government is now in the stage of identifying the retrieved remains of victims buried in the rubble caused by the earthquake.
In a media interview, DFA Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega gave the sad news, saying that the Myanmar authorities “do not think of the possibility that there will be more survivors found.”
Three Filipinos still remain “unaccounted” or “missing” after the devastating earthquake hit Myanmar, with the death toll rising to 3,471 and with 4,671 people injured and another 214 still missing, according to a report from Reuters, citing information from state media.
