The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDB-Laban) will serve as fiscalizer of the Marcos administration, PDP-Laban chair, and former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte said on Thursday, Sept. 29.
During the group’s National Assembly in Pasay, Duterte said they would not put up a strong party against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
“I would like to make this thing very very clear. We are not going to quarrel. Far from it, we will be fully supporting him politically. But the President can be very sure that in the coming days, we will fiscalize. Kapag may nakita tayong masama, we will raise our voice, because that is the essence of our presence here,” he said.
The Duterte-led PDP-Laban has elected Palawan 2nd District Rep. Jose Alvarez as the new President, succeeding former Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi. While Senator Robinhood Padilla was elected as Executive Vice President.
Other elected officials are Rep. Edwin Olivarez as VP for NCR; Senator Francis Tolentino as VP for Luzon; Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama as VP for the Visayas; Senator Bato dela Rosa as VP for Mindanao; Atty. Melvin Matibag as Secretary General; Deputy Speaker Rep. Dong Gonzales as Treasurer, and Senator Bong Go as Auditor.
In an ambush interview after the event, the former chief executive refused to comment on the first 100 days of Marcos but reiterated that he support him.
“If he succeeds, it will benefit our country. Wala pang natapos ang 100 days, it is supposed to be a honeymoon, at least give it to him,” he added.
When asked about the kidnapping issue in the country, Duterte said the enforcement of police and military should be heightened.
“That is just a suggestion. That was the practice which I adopted when I was president. Ang akin, the police should work harder. 'Yung pagtaas ng krimen is.. too early to pass judgment. I’m sure the President is doing everything he can,” he added.
