Senator Imelda “Imee” Marcos dared the current administration to pursue lifestyle checks on every government official and ensure that those proven to be corrupt are incarcerated.

The senator supported her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s call to subject all officials to lifestyle checks but added that those guilty of unlawful gains should be locked up, reported RH 28 Raymund Dadpaas.

There have long been calls for lifestyle checks, but none have been charged or punished, Marcos said. The country’s leaders should not be exempt from the law, she went on.

“‘Yung lifestyle check, umpisa pa lamang. Pagkatapos noon, imbestigahan kung talagang may negosyo o minana na negosyo at, higit sa lahat, dapat may makulong kasi para namang walang ending doon. Hindi natutuldukan ‘yung mga lifestyle check. Puro press release, puro banat, katakot-takot na birada. Tapos ang ending, wala namang nakukulong,” she said.

Marcos said that in this digital age, it is fairly easy to look up an official’s lifestyle by checking their social media accounts, where they may have posted their expensive cars, mansions in foreign countries, and costly jewelry, aside from the contents of their Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN).

President Marcos ordered a lifestyle check on all government officials on Thursday, amid the controversy surrounding substandard and “ghost” or fabricated flood control projects.
