Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Secretary Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil and other officials under her leadership have been asked to submit their courtesy resignations, according to information obtained by DZRH News.
The request for courtesy resignations was reportedly made on Wednesday, September 4.
Broadcast journalist Cesar Chavez is said to be Garafil's replacement. Chavez’s promotion comes just nine months after his appointment as Presidential Assistant for Strategic Communications with the rank of Undersecretary under the Office of the President.
Chavez previously served as Deputy Administrator of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and as Undersecretary for Rails at the Department of Transportation during the Duterte administration, a position he continued to hold under President Marcos.
Garafil is reportedly set to be appointed as the new Chairperson of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taiwan, replacing former Secretary Bebot Bello.
Initially, Garafil was appointed as Chairperson of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in June 2022. Four months later, she was promoted to Officer-in-Charge Press Secretary, succeeding Trixie Cruz-Angeles.
In December, the Office of the Press Secretary was reorganized into the PCO, and Garafil was formally appointed as its Secretary.
