Senator judges should have ‘neutrality,’ says PCO Usec: ‘Magpakita naman ng kaunting kahihiyan’

Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro called on the senator judges of the impeachment court not to shamelessly parade their biases as a body meant to uphold neutrality.

“Sa batas naman po, sinasabi na kapagka po kayo ay tumayong senator judges, dapat mayroon kayong neutrality. Dapat hindi bias. Sa ngayon po, harap-harapang ipinapakita ang biases,” she said during a press briefing.

(In the law, it is said that when you serve as senator judges, you should have neutrality. Not bias. As of now, biases are being blatantly demonstrated.)

Castro expects the senator judges to respect the Filipino people and honor their duty to serve, not the interests of a single person, but the public, as reported by RH 14 Leth Narciso.

“Sana po igalang nila ang taumbayan at magpakita naman ng kaunting kahihiyan, dahil ang sinisilbihan nila ay ang taumbayan. Hindi para sa iisang tao lamang,” she declared.

(I hope they will respect the people and have a little shame, because they serve their countrymen—not one person only.)

Castro’s statement was made in response to the House prosecution panel’s concern over several senator judges’ patent support for Vice President Sara Duterte, such as Sen. Robinhood “Robin” Padilla and Sen. Imelda “Imee” Marcos.

The Senate impeachment court voted 18-5 to remand the articles of impeachment to the House of Representatives, a move slammed by legal experts as “unconstitutional.”
