PCG rescues Filipino bulk carrier crew in Eastern Samar

A Filipino crew of a Japanese-flagged bulk carrier was rescued in the vicinity waters of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday, Dec. 21.

In a Facebook post, PCG said BRP Capones (MRRV-4404) conducted a medical evacuation to one of the crew members of M/V YODOHIME, a Japanese-flagged bulk carrier, on Wednesday, Dec. 20.

The crew was identified as Esperidion Real, 45, who was said to be conscious, able to speak, but could not comprehend as his right side of the body was paralyzed.

After receiving the report from the PCG Command Center, the Coast Guard Eastern Visayas "immediately informed concerned units to deploy a team and proceeded to the rendezvous point in the vicinity waters off of Guiuan, Eastern Samar."

The 45-year-old crew was safely transferred to BRP Capones (MRRV-4404).

Meanwhile, PCG said BRP Capones (MRRV-4404) reached Tacloban Port today.

The patient was transferred to the Eastern Visayas Medical Center in Tacloban City.
